Workshop Details:
In this practical workshop, Louise will share a wealth of engaging poetry ideas that can be used across year levels to scaffold writing and help all students experience success.
She will explore how poetry can be used to:
provide accessible mentor texts that help students understand purpose, structure and success criteria
explicitly teach language features and literary devices
encourage creativity, build confidence and support students to produce quality writing
Presenter Bio:
Louise Dempsey is an experienced teacher, literacy consultant and professional learning facilitator who has worked in New Zealand and the United Kingdom. She delivers literacy training and professional learning throughout New Zealand, Australia and internationally.
Louise has completed a wide range of educational writing projects for publishers and education organisations in New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
She has co-authored four books with Sheena Cameron: The Writing Book (2013), The Oral Language Book (2016), The Reading Book (2019) and The Poetry Book (2022).
